At Under the Code, we have a staff of writers and gamers who bring to the table very different sets of insights into the sports video games which we all play and enjoy. At various times over the course of the year, we will be gathering ourselves to answer questions in a “roundtable” format where each member shares their thoughts on a title or topic. Today’s topic is the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 demo, featuring an expert panel of video golf fanatics. Tomorrow we will follow up with a roundtable on the same topic from non-experts to get their impressions.
1.) Tell us a little about your video golf gaming history.
cccgolfer08: I first started playing the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR series with the 2003 version of the game. I became addicted quickly and by the time Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 04 came out, I was jumping online to test the waters. I quickly found some friends online who invited me over to their league which was Tiger Woods Online (now known as “The Games Village”). I played up through 2006 on the PS2, but when the PS3 came out, I was still a teenager and didn’t have the money to buy one. After I got to Ball State University, I bought the PS3 as well as Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09 and got back into the series. Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 was the game that really got me noticed by EA SPORTS. I was constantly on the top of the leaderboards in the Live Tournaments and was always on the EA Forums helping people out. I believe in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10; I won about 100 online Live Tournaments. They then invited me down to the Tiger Woods Community Event for the 2011 version of the series. That is when they inducted me into the EA SPORTS Game Changers program and I have been a member ever since. I have now attended 4 total Tiger Woods Community Events which were for the 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 versions of the game. My interest with the game currently is just to have fun and help others enjoy the game as well. You can find me on the Xbox 360, PS3, Twitter, and many other forums with the Gamertag “cccgolfer08″.
CoreySA: I grew up playing Electronic Arts golfing games my entire life. My real addiction started in 1992 with the release of PGA Tour Golf on the Super Nintendo. I’ve been hooked ever since. I became an EA SPORTS Game Changer in 2011 and was immediately asked to come down to Orlando to visit Tiburon Studios for my first community event – Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13. I loved the experience and learned a lot from it. This year, I was asked to return for the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 event in November and I was truly honored to do so. Getting hands on with a title you’ve played for 20 years of your life is an amazing feeling.
I’m also an avid golfer in my life away from gaming as well. You’ll find me all summer swinging my Taylor Made Burner 2.0 set somewhere on a course.
Oblong: I started playing video golf back on the Intellivision system and have been hooked ever since. I still own every version of Tiger Woods golf that has been released on consoles and revisit them from time to time. I have been to all the Tiger Woods Community Events between Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09 and present – 7 times. I am also an EA SPORTS Game Changer and a senior moderator on the EA SPORTS Tiger Woods forums. I generally play the toughest mode the game offers and have won quite a few of the online tournaments over the years. Wish my real golf abilities came close to resembling what I can do with a joystick!
